Ruto said the fund continues to lend approximately Sh50 million every day.

President William Ruto has announced that the government will continue strengthening and funding the Financial Inclusion Fund, popularly known as the Hustler Fund, as it records significant milestones in expanding access to affordable credit and promoting a savings culture among Kenyans.
In a statement shared on Wednesday after receiving a progress brief on the fund, the President said the Hustler Fund has become a key driver of financial inclusion by offering low-cost loans through a fully digital platform while encouraging responsible borrowing and savings.
The President said the fund has so far disbursed Sh90 billion to 28 million borrowers through its three flagship products: the Personal Loan, Bridge Loan, and Hustler Groups.
He added that the fund continues to lend approximately Sh50 million every day, highlighting the sustained demand for affordable government-backed credit.
“Received a brief on the progress the Financial Inclusion Fund, popularly known as the Hustler Fund, is making in the lives of customers. We will continue resourcing the fund so that Kenyans can continue accessing the most affordable credit in the country,” President Ruto said.
He noted that the programme has also rewarded responsible borrowers, revealing that 10 million customers have become repeat borrowers, with 4.5 million earning A and B credit scores because of consistent borrowing and timely loan repayments.
According to the President, these positive repayment habits demonstrate that many Kenyans are using the fund responsibly and building a strong credit history, which is one of the programme’s long-term objectives.
Beyond lending, the Head of State said the Hustler Fund has played a major role in promoting a savings culture among citizens.
Borrowers have collectively saved Sh7 billion, a development he described as a major achievement in fulfilling the fund’s broader goal of mobilising national savings.
“The borrowers have saved Sh7 billion, a major achievement in the role the Hustler Fund was meant to play in mobilising national savings,” he said.
President Ruto further praised the digital infrastructure supporting the initiative, saying the programme’s success demonstrates the government’s commitment to digitising public services and improving efficiency.
“I am very proud that these milestones have been achieved purely on a digital platform and the processes have all been digitised,” he stated.
The Hustler Fund was introduced by the Kenya Kwanza administration to provide affordable credit to individuals and small businesses that have traditionally struggled to access financing from conventional financial institutions.
By leveraging digital technology, the fund aims to promote financial inclusion, support entrepreneurship, and reduce reliance on expensive informal lenders.
Ruto reaffirmed that continued investment in the fund will enable more Kenyans to access affordable credit, improve their financial standing, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
