Kenya’s reigning 3000m steeplechase world record holder Beatrice Chepkoech will compete in the 2026 Run Your City Durban 10K on July 12, joining one of the strongest women’s fields ever assembled on African soil.
Chepkoech will line up alongside fellow Kenyans Brenda Jepchirchir and Jackline Rotich, Lesotho’s Neheng Khatala, and South African hopeful Tayla Kavanagh in a race that organisers say continues to cement its status as Africa’s premier 10km road running spectacle.
The Durban race will mark Chepkoech’s debut in the Run Your City Series, with the former world champion eager to test herself against some of the continent’s finest road runners.
According to organisers, Chepkoech described the opportunity to compete in Durban alongside a world-class field as one she could not turn down.
“I chose South Africa as the destination for the start of my season because of the country’s incredible sporting culture,” Chepkoech said.
Also making her South African debut is Jackline Rotich, who heads to Durban confident after a strong block of preparations.
“I completed a focused four-week training cycle specifically geared towards Durban, and I’m pleased with the shape that I’m in,” Rotich averred.
Meanwhile, Brenda Jepchirchir returns to South Africa aiming to continue her impressive form after winning the Run Your City Gqeberha 10K in March in 30:15.
The Kenyan, who boasts a personal best of 29:25, narrowly missed becoming the first woman to break the 30-minute barrier for 10km on African soil earlier this year and believes the historic mark remains within reach.
“If the conditions are favourable and the race unfolds well, I believe breaking the 30-minute barrier is possible. It would be a significant milestone in my career and I would be proud to contribute to what could become one of the greatest days in African road running history.”
The the men’s contest will feature Ugandan distance-running superstar Joshua Cheptegei alongside a world-class elite field.
