Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku has cautioned residents of Mbeere against embracing clan-based politics, saying the practice risks undermining development and dividing communities.
Speaking during the handover of a modern school complex worth Sh38 million at Katheru Primary School in Mbeere North, built by Safaricom Foundation, Ruku urged residents to focus on leaders with a development agenda rather than those promoting sectional interests.
The CS said the region’s progress depends on unity and collective efforts, warning that politics founded on clan alignments would only derail development gains being witnessed across the country.
Without mentioning the 2027 elections directly, Ruku took a swipe at former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, accusing him of misleading the Mbeere community and advancing divisive politics.
He claimed that some leaders had for years taken the community “to the bush” politically instead of championing programmes capable of improving the livelihoods of ordinary wananchi.
Ruku challenged leaders seeking political office to present their development records and practical solutions to the people rather than relying on ethnic and clan mobilization.
The CS also criticized former Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Matiang’i, accusing them of pursuing selfish political interests at the expense of wananchi who continue to benefit from government development projects.
According to Ruku, opposition leaders have failed to acknowledge the progress achieved under President William Ruto’s administration, choosing instead to focus on political rhetoric.
He maintained that the Kenya Kwanza government has rolled out transformative projects across various sectors, including education, roads, water, agriculture and social protection programmes.
Ruku argued that the current administration’s development footprint surpasses that of previous governments since independence, adding that wananchi are already witnessing the impact of ongoing investments in their communities.
The CS pointed to partnerships between the government and private institutions such as Safaricom Foundation as evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving public services and expanding opportunities for young people.
He urged residents to support leaders who champion unity, development and service delivery, saying the future of the region depends on issue-based politics that place the interests of wananchi above personal and political ambitions.
