The test of Faithfulness.

Title: The Test of Faithfulness

Introduction:
Have you ever been in a situation where you felt God is asking something incredibly difficult of you? Maybe it was a relational sacrifice, a financial burden, or a seemingly impossible dream.

Today, we look at a story that exemplifies this struggle: the story of Abraham and the test of faith on his son Isaac. In Genesis chapter 22 verses 2, 5, and 7, we see a glimpse into Abraham’s unwavering faith and how God reveals Himself in the midst of the trial.

The bible reads in Genesis 22:2,5,7 NKJV
2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”…5 And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.”… 7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the [b]lamb for a burnt offering?”

The Shocking Command (v. 2):
The passage opens with a chilling verse: “Then He said, ‘Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you’” (v. 2).

Can you imagine the weight of these words on Abraham? Isaac wasn’t just any son; he was the promised heir, the answer to years of longing and prayers. God asks for a sacrifice that seems to contradict His own promises.

A Walk of Faith (v. 5):
Despite the internal turmoil, verse 5 tells us, “And Abraham said to his young men, ‘Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you’” (v. 5).

Abraham doesn’t argue or rebel. He acknowledges the difficulty but chooses to walk in faith. He takes Isaac with him, likely shielding him from the true purpose of their journey.
