HER: We are not serious with our marriage
HIM: Why do you say that?
HER: Are we really a Godly couple?
HIM: Of course we are
HER: Really?
HIM: Yes, really
HER: Look at our walls, they have lovely plaques hanging on them. Look at that one, it is says “Christ is the Head of this house; the Unseen Guest at every meal; the Silent Listener to every conversation.” Look at that one over there, it says “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord”, that one says “This home is anchored in Christ”
HIM: What is your point?
HER: Don’t you find it wrong that we claim to be a Godly couple yet we don’t pray?
HIM: (Looking away)
HER: My husband, you are the High Priest of our home. When was the last time we prayed?
HIM: Last weekend, during our son’s birthday
HER: That doesn’t count. That was a simple prayer for food and we only did it because we had visitors. That prayer wasn’t genuine, it was just for show
HIM: You are right. We actually don’t pray
HER: We don’t. In fact, I don’t like that first plaque that says Jesus is a silent listener to every conversation. I don’t want Jesus to be silent in our marriage, I want Him to speak. Speak to our spirits, our issues. But how will we hear Jesus if we don’t pray?
HIM: You have a point my love
HER: Which Lord are we serving if we don’t fellowship with Him as a couple? Honey, we don’t even worship in this home. We don’t praise, yet the Lord inhabits the praises of His people. So if we don’t praise, the Lord doesn’t inhabit this home. No wonder our marriage is struggling. We fight too often, petty issues turn into arguments. We are not living like a Godly couple. We are Christians by title, not by lifestyle
HIM: And when our marriage struggles our parenthood struggles
HER: Very true. Look at the irony, we want our children to be prayerful and depend on God yet we don’t pray. We want our children to grow knowing God yet we as the leaders of the home we do not allow worship to fill this home
HIM: Are we truly anchored in Christ?
HER: No, not if we continue like this. This is doing marriage our way, drifting far from God yet the Bible says they labour in vain them that build a home without God, and you know Scripture always comes true
HIM: (Kneeling down stretching his hands) Please pray with me my wife
HER: Yes my love (Placing her hands on his)
HIM: Our Lord Jesus, forgive us for being lax in our prayer life. We restore Your altar in this home afresh, touch us a new. Lord, teach us to be more prayerful. Holy Spirit as head of the family I invite You into this home not as our visitor but our every day Helper. We want to see you Lord, open the eyes of our hearts
HER: Oh yes Oh Lord, and as the wife of this home, I invite you into every room in this house. No evil will have room here. We cancel every work of the enemy of this home. We dedicate this home to You. Reign Lord, reign. Shower Your blessings here. Speak, we want to hear from You. In the name of Jesus we pray
HIM/HER: Amen
